Subject: PINEWOOD DERBY 2012
The Pinewood Derby will take place on Friday, March 16th, 2012 at 7PM in the Church Basement. You are encouraged to arrive up to 15 minutes early so that weigh-ins can be performed, and if necessary, modifications to the car made to meet. One a vehicle has had his weigh in approved, and his axles lubed (if the Cub Scout desires), the car will be impounded until its racetime. Once cars have been registered, no further modifications will be allowed.
Kits were distributed at the Blue and Gold. If your son did not receive one then, his Den Leader should have gotten one to him. If you still do not have one, please let me know at jandklasky@aol.com and I will get one to you.
The race will run much the same as last year. A sheet of rules was distributed with the kits. This will give all the guidelines necessary for your son to build his car with your help.
Of particular note, PLEASE allow your son to do as much of the work on this car as possible. There has been concern in the past of parents doing too much of the work for their son. The prizes in this competition are small - it more important for your son to have the enjoyment of building and racing what HE worked on, and let's keep this fair for ALL the boys. If, in the opinion of the judges, a vehicle appears to have too much parental involvement, it will be disqualified.
At the Pinewood Derby, snacks are scheduled to be provided by the Den 1 (Bears). The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are scheduled to be done by Den 8.
