Scouting For Food Dates NOW thru 12/10: Please Read

The Scouting For Food program is a city-wide food collection program conducted in partnership with the Chicago Food Depository.  The program will be conducted during the first two weeks of December by several thousand Scouts. The Scouts will be collecting non-perishable food donations and delivering the food to their district collection site. The food will then be transported to the Chicago Food Depository for distribution to local food pantries.

The Scouting For Food program has several objectives:
1. Help provide food for needy families.
2. Teach scouts the value and importance of serving the community and helping their neighbors.
3. Provide and opportunity for the Chicago Area Council to give back to the community.
. Provide visibility for Scouting.

In the Law of the Pack, a Cub Scout gives good will and in the Boy Scout Promise, a Boy Scout promises to help other people at all times. By participating in the Scouting for Food program, Scouts fulfill these words and assist needy neighbors.

St. Edward Parish Cub Scout Pack 3904 has a history of collecting food at the December Pack Night.  Last year we collected OVER 500 food items!!!  This year, we join with other Packs in the Chicago Area Council and participate in the Scouting for Food Program.  The program will work like this…

Thursday, December 1st    Each scout will be given about 25 Scouting for Food bags.  A
Delivery will be via school backpack or home delivery by den leader.  Let your den leader know if you would like more bags.

Saturday, December 3rd    Scouts can deliver Scouting for Food bags to friends and neighbors.
Be sure to enclose a Scouting for Food Bag Tag (print and cut apart the attached form)

Before Friday, Dec. 9th
Make arrangements to pickup bags from friends and neighbors.

Your Den Leader will instruct you where to bring food items.

Saturday, December 10th    Food is delivered to the North River Park Collection Site.
Pack 3904 is recognized for their hard work.
Achievement Badges are earned for all scouts that participate

A few tips about collecting food from December 1-9, 2011…Scouts must have adult supervision and work in pairs.  Do not enter any homes or buildings of people you do not know.  It is best if scouts should wear their scout uniforms when asking a neighbor to consider donating to the Scouting for Food program.
